COPIA is honored to serve as the Northern California host for the prestigious Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET). After almost 40 years, the London-based WSET has become the leading provider of vocational training for the Wine & Spirit trade and is the prerequisite curriculum for the Master of Wine. The three core courses offered by the Trust — Intermediate Certificate, Advanced Certificate and Diploma — are now studied widely throughout the world. In fact, in 2007 WSET processed over 17,000 examinations from students around the globe who are studying for WSET qualifications. WSET Courses are open to anyone, including people not in the wine industry, but who would like a more challenging and structured wine and spirits course. COPIA is also the only West Coast provider for the WSET Diploma course.

Intermediate Certificate
Weekend course, February 28 and March 1, 2009

Exam: Saturday, March 21, 2009, 9:00 am
Location: COPIA, Napa
Requires no previous wine knowledge and is appropriate for students with an interest in wine, as well as those who would like to expand their knowledge. The course covers the major types, and includes tastings of more than 40 different wines and spirits of the world. The final exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. Successful completion of the exam earns students the Intermediate Certificate of the WSET.

Advanced Certificate
Weekend Course: January 10 - 11, 2009, January 24 - 25, 2009

Exam: Saturday, February 7, 2009, 9:00 am
Location: COPIA, Napa.
Recommended for those who have earned the Intermediate Certificate or have a good foundation of wine knowledge. Wines and spirits of the world are covered in considerable depth. (Please see brochure for curriculum.) Lectures and discussions are supplemented with slides and in-depth tastings of more than 90 wines. The final exam consists of multiple-choice questions, short written answers and a blind tasting of one wine. Successful candidates receive the Advanced Certificate of the WSET, which is a prerequisite for the two-year Diploma Program.

Diploma
Beginning December 2008.
The Diploma course is a two-year program of study for wine professionals and consumers who are serious about pursuing an advanced, internationally recognized wine credential. It is one of the most advanced courses of wine study offered in the United States and regarded as the means of preparing for the Master of Wine (MW). Successfully passing the WSET Advanced Certificate exam is a prerequisite.
Diploma Unit 1 & 2 will be offered December 6-7 and December 13-14
