Dinner at Eight

Film

08/22/2008 - 8:00pm
Witty screen adaptation of Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman's 1932 stage play depicting a wily Park Avenue woman's attempts to successfully host a dinner party for members of the British high society. But she seems to have forgotten that the other invitees are almost as important as the guests of honor, and the gathering soon takes a bitingly disastrous but ultimately comic turn. A masterfully-directed, poignant melodramatic comedy filled with a tremendous cast of stars - John and Lionel Barrymore, Billie Burke, Wallace Beery, Marie Dressler and “that platinum bomb-shell” Jean Harlow.
